Observation #2

Last night, my dad and I took a drive through the elk refuge. There was cloud cover, so I could not see the moon or the stars. Although the moon was in its waxing gibbous faze.  At the beginning of the drive, we saw nothing but a few moths flying toward my headlights. I noticed that new grass was beginning to sprout on the side of the road. I assume that it was so green because of the amount of moisture that we have received the past couple days. After driving a little further into the refuge, my dad and I saw a red fox. We knew when he was looking at us because we could see his eyes reflect the light from our truck. When we got closer, we noticed that his fur was not red, but grey. Foxes can be helpful to the elk refuge environment by controlling the rodent populations. By controlling the rodents, this helps the plant growth in the area flourish. Within my next observations I expect that the newly sprouted grass will grow much taller, and the insect and rodent populations will grow larger.

  1. Great connection to the moon phases! Also, you write very clearly, but still manage to have a great deal of detail! Your observation of the fox led to a perfect example of how to describe the significance of your observations by describing it's role in the food chain! 15/15
